Because [livejournal.com profile] cosmic_celery asked. 8D

So what did happen to Fitz?

We all know how the Eighth Doctor's run ended. The sweet, spacey romantic ended up committing double genocide, killing off the Daleks and blowing up Gallifrey (again). The big ol' Time War.

But... what happened to Fitz Kreiner? Because let's face it, Fitz is scarily devoted to the Doctor. (Please see EarthWorld, Book of the Still, and every book written by Cole or Orman for confirmation.) So what happened to Fitz? I'm curious what the popular opinion is! So here is a poll with what I consider to be the popular opinions.

This poll is a ticky-box poll, but please only pick two or three options. Pick the ones you really feel are the most likely.

[Poll #1626892]

Now that you've done the poll, go to the comments and elaborate on what YOU think happened!

Yes, exactly. I can see him becoming very self-destructive, or just aimless. Although I read a very good fic once where he moved in with Anji and she straightened him out :)

I can see him waiting for the Doctor for years and years though, and that's so, so sad...

Fitz is the longest serving companion if you go just by sheer story number. What we tend to see with long serving companions is that slow shift towards becoming more like the Doctor ideologically...which is definitely where the possibility of Fitz being uncomfortable on Earth comes in. He might feel trapped without the adventure, but I also think he could be comfortable on any planet if he found someplace that he could call home.

Here's a bit from The Deadstone Memorial (definitely one of my favorite EDAs):

‘I’ve been thinking,’ began Fitz after a short while, ‘about what we talked about in the garden.’ The Doctor said nothing, so he carried on: ‘Maybe you’re right. I don’t feel like I belong on Earth any more. The TARDIS is my home now. But I’m cool with that.’
The Doctor said, ‘Good.’

If Fitz decided to leave, he might feel at a loose end initially, but eventually I think he would find a place of his own. And failing that, he would definitely remain changed - he couldn't be the man that the Doctor first found in 1963 again.
