A little probably really terrible fanmix that I cooked up very late last night revolving around the ~relationship between the Eighth Doctor and Fitz Kreiner. There are some spoilers in my explanations of why I picked the songs, mainly concerning the events of Interference, Ancestor Cell, and a eensy weensy bit of Year of Intelligent Tigers. But you can always just not read them. :) So, without further ado:

Title: Whisky Sour
Author: [livejournal.com profile] maypanic
Length: 719 words
Characters: Fitz Kreiner. References to Sam, Trix, Eighth and Ninth Doctor
Pairing: Primarily friendship
Spoilers: Not really, references minor plot points of Unnatural History and Mad Dogs and Englishmen
Summary: In which Fitz Kreiner has a birthday, a drink, a nervous breakdown, and a happy ending.

Rating: PG-13 ish
Warnings: Some slight language. Rampant Fitz tropes.
Verse: Doctor Who EDAs

Disclaimer: Don't own or have any rights to the universe in which this takes place, no disrespect is intended, not receiving any material gain from sharing this bit of silliness.

Author's notes: Today, March 7, 2011, would be the 75th anniversary of Fitz Kreiner's birth. If, that is, he had stayed on one planet and lived a chronologically boring life. Or if he were, you know. Real. In honor of this anniversary of not-birth, I have written this. I love fanfic but I really, really don't write it, so this is a bizarre anomaly. Could probably stand to be beta'd, but if I waited for that it would no longer be the correct date and also I would lose my nerve and never hit the post button, so please feel free to point out any and all errors as you see fit.

On this day in 1936, Fitz Kreiner was (fictionally) born, which makes our lovely man 75 YEARS OLD today!

HAPPY 75th BIRTHDAY,
FITZ!

Celebrate in the comments! Share your favorite Fitz moment, rec a favorite fic, or even guess what Fitz would be doing for his birthday.

Or maybe you'd just like a piece of cake.

I know we've got a bunch of great writers in the comm, so I thought I'd get a little bit of participation going here with a drabble tree!

If you aren't familiar with how this works, one person posts a drabble (a 100-word ficlet) and then people respond to the post with another drabble that contains a sentence or phrase from the original drabble. As it goes on, posters can choose to start their own drabble or respond to any drabble in the tree.

(Don't feel like you have to write exactly 100 words. near-drabbles are okay too.)

Our theme this go-around is Fitz/Everyone. It's easy to write Fitz/Eight, but wouldn't it be great to find a little more variety in the Fitz fic out there? I'm challenging you to write Fitz/Grace, Fitz/C'rizz, Fitz/that microwave in the spare kitchen - whatever strikes your fancy.

Title War will change us both
Fandom Doctor Who (EDA)
Pairing Doctor/Fitz, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it mention of previous Doctor/Romana
Beta [livejournal.com profile] infiniteth
Word count 7 129
Rating/warnings R. Darkfic - angstangstangstangst, physical trauma. It's the Time War.
Disclaimer I don’t own Doctor Who or the Eighth Doctor Adventures.
Summary The world of the Time War was crueler and colder than the world of their frivolous travels, and it had carelessly molded the Doctor into another being.
Author’s notes I really felt like writing something about Fitz and the Time War for some time, and this is the result. Also, I’m really sorry. ;_;

I've been writing fics as holiday gifts for various friends, and two of them involved our friend and neighbor, Fitz.

where the lovelight gleams, Fitz/Eight (summary: “I thought about wrapping myself up in a big red bow, but that just seemed a bit too cheesy.”)

Fitz Kreiner, Intergalactic Private Detective, Fitz meets Team!Eleven (summary: “I was expecting at least a half-dozen outstanding warrants for extradition, treason, sedition, obstruction, and various other crimes.”)

Enjoy!

I've uploaded all of the EDAs in PDF versions to this folder on mediafire. They all should be in order. For Fitz fans, his first appearance is in book nineteen The Taint and (excepting The Burning through Father Time) he's in every other book after that. You can find a more detailed list with who's in each book on Wikipedia and you can find summaries of each book at The Doctor Who Reference Guide.

Though all of these books are out of print, you can also support your public library, local used bookstore or online retailers (ebay, abebooks, amazon marketplace, etc) by checking out or buying the print versions. It is nice to have the good ol' paper versions.

Please let me know if any of the links don't work or if mediafire doesn't work for you so I can find a better solution!

And so this isn't just a resource post: what are some of your favorite EDAs? Which would you recommend to someone that hasn't read any of them?

Issue 8 of the fanzine The Terrible Zodin is out. The main theme for this issue is the Wilderness Years (i.e., the period between the classic and new series), and in this matter it features a small article on Fitz. You can download it here.

Because [livejournal.com profile] cosmic_celery asked. 8D

So what did happen to Fitz?

We all know how the Eighth Doctor's run ended. The sweet, spacey romantic ended up committing double genocide, killing off the Daleks and blowing up Gallifrey (again). The big ol' Time War.

But... what happened to Fitz Kreiner? Because let's face it, Fitz is scarily devoted to the Doctor. (Please see EarthWorld, Book of the Still, and every book written by Cole or Orman for confirmation.) So what happened to Fitz? I'm curious what the popular opinion is! So here is a poll with what I consider to be the popular opinions.

This poll is a ticky-box poll, but please only pick two or three options. Pick the ones you really feel are the most likely.

[Poll #1626892]

Now that you've done the poll, go to the comments and elaborate on what YOU think happened!

I've been seeing pretty low participation in the eda read-along (and as such, it's been on an informal hiatus). I'd like to get everyone's thoughts on continuing or discontinuing it.

Would you like to see it continued and would you participate if it did? Is there anything different that you'd like to see happen?

Hey, thanks to those who participated in the last discussion!

Our next book is The Fall of Yquatine by Nick Walters! This one features a new romantic adventure for Fitz, a bit of timey-wimey-ness, and a new development in Compassion's strange condition. There's also some pie. If you're so inclined you can find more information, along with a complete synopsis and continuity notes, at the Doctor Who Reference Guide.

For anyone that's new to the discussion, here's how it goes: We've been making our way through the EDAs (Eighth Doctor Adventure novels) that feature Fitz. I post up a PDF file of the next book in the line and two weeks later we have a discussion both here at the community and in an irc chatroom. Anyone and everyone is free to join in the conversation. It's great fun and we all discover more about our favorite characters. If you feel like catching up, take a look at the EDA read-along tag for the download links (or feel free to start with this one).

Title: Obligatory Experiences to be Repressed and Never Spoken of Again
Rating/Warning: MASSIVELY NC-17. Porn porn porn porn, a bit of language, and the usual dub-con that comes with an Aliens Made Them Do It fic.
Characters/Pairings: Eight/Fitz, with a side-order of Anji.
Word Count: 5524. Because I am incapable of writing a PWP correctly.

Summary: The name of the game is plausible deniability.

Notes: I couldn't find an Aliens Made Them Do It fic for this fandom. I come from the SGA fandom, so this was a crime that had to be stopped. Thanks again to [livejournal.com profile] lullabee_lj for letting me write at you.

Some things just have to be written, that is my only excuse.

Hello everyone! Our last discussion post hasn't had many responses, so if you've read Parallel 59 and have any comments to make feel free to stop by and do so.

Our next book in line is The Shadows of Avalon by Paul Cornell! haven't had the pleasure of reading this one, but anything with the Brigadier, Gallifreyan agents, and dragons dueling jet fighters can't be all bad! If you're so inclined you can find more information, along with a complete synopsis and continuity notes, at the Doctor Who Reference Guide.
